Zia Ahmad

Zia Ahmad is a distinguished community leader, media professional based in Australia, serving our community including my local community. He currently serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the Australasian Muslim Times [AMUST] and is a Trustee of both the Islamic Foundation for Education and Welfare [IFEW] and the Australian MEFF Consortium, organiser of the renowned Multicultural Eid Festival and Fair [MEFF]. Over the years, Zia has garnered numerous accolades, including the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at the Premier's Multicultural Communications Award 2021, as well as the Premier's Multicultural Communications Award in 2019. His contributions to interfaith dialogue, multiculturalism, and the Muslim community in Australia have been widely recognized, earning him awards such as the Interfaith Dialogue Award (2018) and the SBS Lifetime Community Service Medal Finalist recognition in 2020. Originally from Azamgarh, India, Zia migrated to Australia in 1971, where he and his family were instrumental in the establishment of key Muslim organizations, including the Sydney University Muslim Students Association and the Islamic Council of NSW. A retired biochemist with over 40 years at the University of Sydney. I commend his commitment to fostering interfaith understanding and contributing to a harmonious multicultural society.
