I had the opportunity to meet the Hon. Michael Kirby, AC, CMG, former judge of the High Court of Australia, in Sydney. This was a particularly meaningful experience for me, as I had previously read many of his judgements during my law studies at the University of Sydney. His rulings have always stood out for their depth, creativity and compassion, reflecting a profound understanding of both the law and the human condition. Meeting Justice Kirby in person was a remarkable honour. His judgements are renowned for their innovative approaches and empathetic perspectives, which have significantly influenced Australian jurisprudence and legal thought. Engaging with him firsthand was an invaluable experience, allowing me to gain deeper insights into his judicial philosophy and approach. I am grateful to the Australian South East Asian Network for organising this special meeting. My thanks go to founder Sawathey Ek, member Rox G Molavin, and youth ambassador Dylan Ek. This week is also Public Education Week, and I have been advised that Justice Kirby was probably the first High Court judge educated in our public schools.
