On Sunday 18 June 2023 I had the great pleasure of celebrating Slovenian Statehood Day at Triglav Mounties. It was an honour to attend the event with the Slovenian community to celebrate this special day, and attendees came from all over Sydney. In 1990 Slovenia took the important step towards independence when about 90 per cent of the population voted for it. On 25 June 1991 Slovenia declared independence from Yugoslavia, and Australia was one of the first countries to recognise its independence. The electorate of Cabramatta embraces its cultural diversity, with people coming from all over the world to build a home in our community. I acknowledge and thank Mr Peter Krope, the president of the Triglav Mounties advisory committee; His Excellency Mr Marko Ham, Ambassador of Slovenia; Triglav Mounties advisory committee members; the executive members of Mounties Group; New South Wales Slovenian community representatives; and everyone in the organising committee.
