On 22 January 2026 I had the privilege of attending the opening ceremony and public display of the sacred Buddha relics during their official visit to Australia. That significant event marked a historic occasion in the journey of the relics, which have travelled through time and across nations. In 1898 the British government of India gifted Buddha's sacred bone relic to His Majesty King Rama V of Thailand. In 2009, exactly 111 years later, the Chief Abbot of Wat Saket in Thailand offered the relics to France, where the Buddhist Union of France was entrusted with their care. The visit to Australia served as a reminder of the values of peace, compassion, wisdom and harmony. The sacred relics are revered by Buddhists worldwide, and their presence was an opportunity for reflection and unity among people. I am grateful to Senior Venerable Thich Phuoc Tan of Phuoc Hue Temple for the kind invitation.
