MR VINCENT KONG OAM, Australian Chinese Buddhist Society President

09 May 2024

In 1980 Mr Vincent Kong, OAM, and his family came to Australia after escaping from Vietnam on a boat and staying in Indonesia. Arriving in Australia with nothing, Vincent worked his way to become a well-known leader in my community. Vincent is now the President of the Australian Chinese Buddhist Society [ACBS]. Through this organisation, Vincent has supported the growth of the Mingyue Lay Temple to create a strong cultural and religious place for Buddhists in my community. Under Vincent's leadership, the ACBS has also participated in fundraising for humanitarian efforts, including raising vital funds for St Vincent's Hospital and the Red Cross. Vincent is also the co-founder and chairman of Indochinese Aged Care Services. This facility was established to meet the cultural and linguistic needs of the aged population in Cabramatta, especially those coming from Cambodia, China, Laos, Vietnam and other South-East Asian countries. In 2017 Vincent was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for his service to the local community. On behalf of my community, I thank Vincent for all his wonderful work.
