Mr Van Phung Nguyen, a former soldier of the Republic of Vietnam Army, is among the courageous 'boat people' escaping Vietnam in search for refuge after the Vietnam War. Mr Nguyen eventually arrived in Australia as a refugee in 1981 and became an Australian Citizen 3 years after. Mr Nguyen has remained a Scout member since the 1990s, motivated by his desire for personal growth and passion for adventure, and a strong affinity to community bonding. In 2011, Mr Nguyen joined the NSW Vietnamese Elderly Friendship Association [VEFA] where he provides practical and valuable assistance. His meticulous dedication and skills, which ensure the orderly, safety and success of VEFA's services delivered to its vulnerable elderly members, are truly commendable. Whether it's setting up events, coordinating logistics, or lending a helping hand wherever needed, Mr Nguyen's contributions to his community have been invaluable. On behalf of our community, I acknowledge and thank Mr Nguyen for his selfless dedication and commitment to assisting VEFA in its mission to enhance the quality of life and total wellbeing for those in need within our community.
