Mr Chau Van Kham

Mr Van Kham Chau(written in Vietnamese as Chau Van Kham) is among a number of prominent members of the Vietnamese Australians actively involved in my Cabramatta Electorate. Behind the humble guise of an ordinary man, Mr Chau embodies a passionate and courageous social and political activist. Born in Vietnam, Mr Chau arrived in Australia in 1983 as a political refugee after a harrowing escape from Vietnam and the communist regime. Inspired by Australia's multiculturalism, Mr Chau encourages everyone within his circle to embrace the Australian society and its policies. As the President of the NSW Chapter of Viet Tan, in 2019 he went on a mission to understand the status of democracy in Vietnam. Mr Chau was unfortunately arrested and unjustly sentenced to 12 years imprisonment on "terrorist activities" charges by the communist authority for simply meeting with his fellow Vietnamese. Due to the Australian Government's intervention Mr Chau returned home in July 2023. He is now fuelled with an even stronger purpose and commitment to dedicate for a good cause. I wish Mr Chau good health, joyful reunions with his family, and continued success in his future endeavours to promote democratic values.
