I had the privilege of hosting the Inaugural Launch of Refugee Week 2024 at the Parliament of NSW on the 20 of June 2024. This event was co-organised by the Australian South East Asian Network[ASEAN], Lao Community Advancement Co-op NSW and the Khmer Krom Cultural Centre of NSW. There was a joint Statement co-signed by 18 individuals and community representatives, and witnessed by many people including Craig Foster AM, Professor Sev Ozdowski AM, Jenny Leong MP, Hon Anthony D'Adam MLC and Dr Patricia Jenkins. The purpose of this event was to promote Australian values, unity, inclusion, compassion, social cohesion, and empowering Australians to exercise their democratic freedom. This was a wonderful initiative led by Sawathey Ek. The event brought together individuals, representatives, and leaders from a diverse array of cultural backgrounds. It also provided a platform for meaningful dialogues on the crucial importance of ongoing advocacy for human rights and inclusivity. Their commitment to promoting Australian values and fostering multiculturalism is commendable. It was an honour and privilege to have many community members, my Parliamentary colleagues and distinguished guests in attendance on this special event.
