On the 20th of May 2024, I had the privilege of visiting Bossley Park High School to discuss the positive and negative impacts that social media has on our younger generations especially high school students. I met Mr Chris Hollis, the Principal of Bossley Park High School and he spoke about witnessing youths being reliant on social media and the risks it presented to their mental health, including social anxiety and increased isolation at school. We also spoke directly to students to discuss how social media use could be regulated to provide a more positive experience for young people on digital platforms. I was part of a discussion group with the Premier, Deputy Premier, and Minister for Youth & Mental Health, and we discussed how students have interacted with social media and their personal experiences. The students were aware of the variety of benefits, including the increased connectivity offered by social media, but also the various dangers that it can present. I look forward to returning to Bossley Park High School in future events and to visit the teachers and the students.
