On 25 August 2024 I had the pleasure of attending the Australian Junior Scrabble Championship at the Cabra-Vale Diggers Club in Cabramatta. It was wonderful to see young people showcasing their skills and passion for this classic word game. I was informed that only about 32 children across Australia participated in the tournament. Remarkably, 23 are from my local area and 18 began their journey at Cabramatta Public School. I congratulate the following students from my electorate: under‑18s first place winner, Nathan Tang, who is in year 9 at St Johns Park High; under-14s second-place winner, Jeffrey Lam, who is in year 6 at Cabramatta Public; under-12s first- and second-place winners, Phi Long Ma and Alvin Korn, who are both in year 5 at Cabramatta Public; and under-10s second-place winner David Lam, who is in year 3 at Cabramatta Public. I thank Mr Tony Hunt, National Youth Coordinator of the Council of Australian Scrabble Players Association, and Ms Tisa Ng‑Prentice, the scrabble coordinator at Cabramatta Public School, for their kind invitation and dedication to this game.
