On the 13th of January 2024, I had the pleasure of attending the Australian South East Asian Network's (ASEAN) Inaugural Summit for Leaders and Organisations at the Lao Community Advancement Cooperative Centre in Edensor Park. At this Summit there were many special guests including members from the: Lao Community, Khmer Krom Centre, Cambodian community, Assyrian community, Indian community, Vietnamese community, Afghanistani-Hazara community, Indigenous Australian, South African community, Filipino community, CBCC, SOHAS Charity, Zen Tea Lounge Foundation, Hong Kong-Malaysian community, Tamil community, Burmese community, Youth Human Rights International, SBS TV, other community media, and more. I like to congratulate ASEAN for this initiative, a milestone journey with wonderful collaborations between the many local communities, and creating opportunities for young people to be involved in events that promote intercultural and interfaith dialogue amongst diverse community. This event was thoughtfully organized with the leadership of Mr Sawathey Ek OAM, a known personality in many ethnic community groups, a former refugee from Cambodia, a lawyer and legal educator with a vision to promote Australian values. This Summit was a great opportunity for many members of the community to discuss ways to promote social cohesion.
