It was a great pleasure to join my local community in celebrating the Army of the Republic of Vietnam Day on the 14th of June 2024. Established in 1955, the Army of the Republic of Vietnam [ARVN] played a crucial role as the main military force of South Vietnam, dedicated to defending the nation throughout the Vietnam War. ARVN Day is traditionally held on the 19th of June each year. On this day, ARVN veterans, their families, descendants, and many members of the Vietnamese refugee community gather to honour and pay tribute to the former officers and allies who made significant sacrifices in defence of their nation, freedom, and democracy. The event provides a meaningful opportunity for the ARVN and the broader Vietnamese refugee community to reflect, honour, and celebrate their heritage and culture. There were a series of vibrant commemorative ceremonies and cultural performances that showcased their rich traditions. I extend my heartfelt thanks to President Mr Bach Huy Phan and Vice President Mr Xuan Lam of the ARVN-NSW for their kind invitation and commend their efforts in preserving their heritage and culture.
