Recently, I had the privilege of attending an event to celebrate 40 years of Mental Health Month, with the theme "Let's Talk About It". This milestone was a powerful reminder of the ongoing importance of raising awareness about mental health and encouraging open conversations. The event featured a range of inspiring speakers, including NRL legend Greg Inglis, who shared his deeply personal journey of navigating mental health challenges. As the founder of Goanna Academy, Greg spoke candidly about his lived experiences, highlighting the struggles many face in private and the importance of seeking support. Greg's story was both inspiring and impactful. It was a privilege to hear from someone so influential, using his platform to encourage others to seek help and break the stigma surrounding mental health issues. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Emily Suvaal, Wayahead, and the Parliamentary Friends of Mental Health for organizing such an important event. Their efforts in raising awareness and providing support for mental health are truly commendable. Mental health affects us all, and events like these are vital in fostering understanding and compassion in our communities.
