On 14 August 2025 I had the honour of attending the eightieth anniversary of the Victory in the Pacific at Cabravale Memorial Park. We commemorated the Victory in the Pacific and the conclusion of the Second World War. The commemoration also honours the sacrifices made by the Australian service men and women in protecting Australia. Nearly one million Australian soldiers served during the Second World War. The commemoration also served to highlight the importance of our Australian servicewomen who contributed to the war efforts, especially in the Pacific. Many of them served in the Australian Army, the Royal Australian Navy and the Royal Australian Air Force, and others, and entered the workforce due to the absence of Australian servicemen, who were defending Australia abroad. I thank Mr Walter Robinson, OAM, and the Cabravale Club Resort for the invitation and for organising the commemoration for us to pay our respects to Australian service men and women who defended or are defending Australia.
