The 2025 Lunar New Year welcomes the Year of the Snake, a year symbolising transformation, wisdom, personal growth and new beginnings. Lunar New Year is one of the most widely celebrated festivals across the world and in my electorate of Cabramatta it holds special significance for our vibrant and diverse community. I had the pleasure of joining some of the incredible celebrations held locally, including the Lunar New Year Eve festivities at Phuoc Hue Temple on 28 January 2025. The evening commenced with lion and dragon dance performances, followed by incredible displays of firecrackers and fireworks. Traditionally such performances and firecrackers are believed to ward off evil spirits while bringing good luck, prosperity and happiness to those celebrating. I express my gratitude to Venerable Thich Phuoc Vien, Vice Abbot of Phuoc Hue Temple, along with the dedicated organising committee and temple members for their warm invitation and hospitality.
