I had the privilege of attending the 2,648th Vesak Day Celebration organised by Phuoc Hue Temple on 26 May 2024. Vesak Day falls in the fifth month and is a sacred celebration in the Buddhist calendar, commemorating three significant events: the Birth of the Buddha, his Enlightenment, and his entry to Nirvana. Vesak Day is more than a commemorative religious event. It is a time of reflection and joy. Buddhist communities actively practice the teachings of the Buddha, focusing especially on the core Buddhism principles of compassion, wisdom, and mindfulness through acts of kindness towards all living beings. The celebration was filled with a myriad of spiritually and culturally colourful Buddhist ceremonies and performances. One of the most poignant moments of the event was the peaceful chanting by the monks. I am filled with gratitude for the opportunity to witness and participate in such a meaningful cultural and spiritual tradition with my constituents. I extend my heartfelt appreciation to Phuoc Hue Temple, especially to Senior Venerable Thich Phuoc Tan and Senior Venerable Thich Phuoc Vien for the kind invitation. May this auspicious event bring peace and joy to everyone.
