Attending the 6,774th Assyrian New Year celebration, meticulously orchestrated by the Assyrian National Council - Australia, was an absolute delight. Set against the vibrant backdrop of the Fairfield Showground, the event exuded an atmosphere of jubilation and cultural richness. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Mr Hermiz Shahen, President of the Assyrian National Council - Australia, and Mr. David David, Vice President and Chairman of the organizing committee, for orchestrating a truly magnificent Opening Ceremony. Their tireless dedication and meticulous planning ensured a seamless and memorable experience for all attendees. Some of the Federal and State MPS in attendance included: Hon Chris Bowen, Hugh McDermott, David Saliba, Nathan Hagarty and Charishma Kaliyanda, which highlighted the support and recognition of the Assyrian community's cultural heritage and contributions. As we immersed ourselves in the festivities, adorned with traditional music, dance, and cuisine, it became evident that events like these serve as a reminder of the importance of cultural diversity and unity in our society. The Assyrian New Year celebration not only honours ancient traditions but also celebrates the resilience and vibrancy of the Assyrian Community in Australia.
